RANKING every version of Boba Fett / Jango Fett SPEED-ART

After releasing The Evolution of Boba Fett on Tell it Animated, I’m excited to discuss his different designs. So today, I'm going through all of Boba Fett’s different looks from worst to best!

19. Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of the Clones

Coming in last place is young Boba from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of the Clones. His design isn’t necessarily the issue. He doesn’t wear armour so his look doesn’t really matter, but this young version of Boba reminds me of young Anikan. Both Boba Fett and Dark Vader are way more interesting and fully fleshed out as adults, and these younger versions of them take away from the characters they become.

18. The Clone Wars: Man With No Name Look

Next up is his other younger version in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, wearing his man with no name cloak. I do like that he’s trying to get revenge on Mace Windu in these episodes, but I’m still not a fan of the young portrayal.

17. The Clone Wars: Bounty Hunter Look

And keeping on the same train of thought is going to be his bounty hunter look in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, in an episode called Bounty. This is marginally better since he’s actually wearing a flight suit, but it’s still not the Boba look I’m a fan of. I’m not sure why he’s not wearing the helmet that his father left behind. It’s a unique design. I don’t hate it, but at the same time, I don’t really love it.

16. The Book of Boba Fett: Burned Flight Suit Look

Coming in sixteenth place is going to be his burnt flight suit look in The Book of Boba Fett. There’s not really any armour on him, which I’m not a fan of. And at this point, Temuera Morrison is a bit too old to play the role. He’s given a scared and burnt look to compensate, but that doesn’t really explain why he’s a 60-year-old man when he’s meant to be 40. I don’t think it’s as cool to see Boba as this barrel-chested older man, and without his armour he just isn’t as interesting.

15. The Mandalorian/Book of Boba Fett: Tusken Look

Coming in fifteenth place is his Tusken look in The Mandalorian/The Book of Boba Fett. He has his gaffi stick and brown jeti-like robes, and while I think the gaffi stick is a cool addition and he does some neat fight scenes with it, I still think it’s not as cool as the armoured look. Obviously, he had to fight to get his armour. It’s part of his story to train with the Tuskens and find respect, but it’s still not an amazing look for him. So for the same reasons as the previous versions on this list, this look is not my cup of tea.

14. Star Wars Visions

Coming in fourteenth place is his Star Wars: Visions look. It’s more or less just his Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back look, minus the belt and cape. I’m not a huge fan of this style. It’s a little too cartoony and big-headed for me, but there are definitely some cool scenes. I would check out this episode of Visions, and I do need to watch the rest of the series myself. And though it’s not my favourite design, he at least wears his armour!

13. Ralph McQuarrie Super Trooper Design

And thirteenth place goes to the Ralph McQuarrie Super Tropper design. This is the initial design that Ralph McQuarrie did for the character. This is when he would have been one of many Super Trooper characters and not specifically a bounty hunter. It’s more closely in line with a clone trooper or a stormtrooper than the Boba Fett design we know today. But I think there’s a lot to like here, and you can definitely see how they tweaked it later on to become Boba. So I’m glad it wasn’t used in the end, but I still appreciate the design.

12. Joe Johnston Design Additions

Coming in twelve place is going to be the Joe Johnston addition. After Ralph McQuarrie handed the design off to Joe Johnston, he added Boba’s helmet. This version is more of a prototype. He would later adjust the look of the helmet to make it appear as we know it today. Johnston's biggest contribution is definitely adding the iconic visor and t-bar.

11. The All White Prototype Test Suit

Coming in eleventh is the all-white prototype test suit. This is just a test suit they filmed on camera to see what the fit would look like. I believe after they saw how it looks on camera, they decided to add colour, but it still looks good without. The colours clearly popped the design, but this is a great prototype, and Boba’s look wouldn’t have existed without it.

10. The Mandalorian: Cleaned-Up Design

At number 10 is The Mandalorian cleaned-up design. This is the look he wears after he cleans up the Sarlacc pit damage on his suit. I like this look, but it looks a little bit cosplayish just because of how clean it is. It doesn’t really have any shine or battle damage besides some minor dings and dangs. One of his knee armour went missing inside the Sarlacc, but for some reason, it reappears, which is odd. He also has a darker suit under his chest armour which looks good. It’s not perfect, but for the most part, I do enjoy this look.

9. Attack of the Clones: Jango Fett

Number nine is none other than Jango Fett from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of the Clones. This is a much shiner look than Boba Fett ever wears. It’s more bluish and more of the cleaned-up look that the prequels had verse the dinged-up look that the trilogies had. And it makes sense that it would have more wear and tear, and the colours would be altered later on by Boba Fett. All and all, I just really like this look.

8. Star Wars 1313

Number eight goes to his look in Star Wars 1313. Obviously, this is a look that never happened, but there was some gameplay look and concept art floating around. I think his look here is extremely cool and am super annoyed the game was canceled. I don’t know why Disney canceled something that was already in production. There looked like there was quite a bit done on this game. They should have just released a demo or something because this look is really cool. It's kind of a cowboy take on Boba.

7. The Holiday Special

Next up is his look in The Star Wars Holiday Special animated segments. I don’t know if they just didn’t have the colours ready for him at this point. It’s obviously not the same as the movies. I don’t know what happened here, but either way, I like the light blue look for him and the pale pastel colouring. I like the gun he uses, the Wookie braids, the jet back, and his side cape. Everything is really interesting, and this is definitely the best part of the animated segment and the holiday special in general. This look is awesome, and I’m glad they kind of used it later on.

6. Star Wars: Droids

At number six is going to be his look in Star Wars: Droids. It’s more or less a cleaned-up look of the holiday special. It has a simpler helmet design while having more detail on the chest. There are no Wookie braids since Droids is actually a prequel to the Holiday Special. The colours are a little darker, and the look is more refined. It was created by the same company that did the Holiday Special, so it’s very similar. But yeah, I like this look a lot. I wish I could have found the action figure.

5. The Book of Boba Fett: Daiymo Fett design

Coming in number five is his final look in The Book of Boba Fett. They refined and recoloured all the armour. It is more or less his look from The Mandalorian but he has a darker flight suit. His armour is reshaped. The helmet and visors are a bit bigger, and the gators are lighter. Everything is a little bit tweaked and refined, making it look less like cosplay. You can tell there are some camera angles to trick Temuera Morrison’s height. He’s not as tall as the original Boba Fett actor. But overall, this is a really neat look, and I’m glad this is what we got for the series.

4. The Mandalorian: Sarlacc Damaged Armour

Number four goes to his Sarlacc Damaged armour in The Mandalorian. I think the damaged look looks really cool. He’s missing his knee armour and looks roughly put together, which reminds me of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, where it looks like his armour was scavenged together all on his own. And under this armour is the Tusken look, which I wasn’t a fan of on its own, but with the armour it works really well. I’m glad we got so many Boba Fett looks inside of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. From those two series, this look is definitely the winner for me.

3. San Anselmo Parade Look

Number three is going to be the San Anselmo Parade look that he had before he premiered in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back or even The Star Wars Holiday Special. I believe one of the sound editors was able to fit into the suit, so he walked in the parade with the armour, and that’s how Boba was first portrayed. The colours are more similar to Return of The Jedi rather than Empire, although it does have a very similar flight suit to Empire. Having him appear for the first time in a parade was a very interesting way to debut a character. You can imagine this character's back story just from looking at him, and that’s what’s so great about this look.

2. Return of the Jedi

Coming in number two is going to be his look in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. This is more or less a saturated version of his Empire look, although his helmet is more flared. It looks closer to his Jango Fett Helmet, and they added more pockets in the middle to resemble what Jango wears. Return of the Jedi is a bit more of a brighter movie, so obviously, some of the designs are going to be brighter and saturated as well. And the only reason why it’s not as high on my list as the Empire version is that the way he’s portrayed in this movie is a little bit weaker, so that impacts my ranking despite it still being an amazing look.

1. Empire Strikes Back

And coming in first place, can it be any other but Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back? This is a bit more muted than the Return look. The gauntlets are more green, his flight suit is dark, and his cape is more beige. This canonically introduced the character into the movie franchise. And it’s such an iconic character brought to life on screen. You can just feel who this character is. He has such a strong presence, and the suit does so much work to draw you in. That’s why he’s so popular. The Empire Strikes Back showed this character for who he is. You just can’t go wrong with his first appearance in the franchise.

So that’s my ranking. What's your favourite Boba look? Check out The Evolution of Boba Fett animation, and until next time, I'll tell you something later!
