Hey Jack, I’m back! Today I’m gonna rank every live-action Spider-Man suit throughout his movie and TV history. After covering Spider-Man on Tell It Animated, I went back and re-animated my original video (now covering everything from 1973 to 2026), updating it with all new designs from the movies and shows, so I figured it was finally time to rank all these suits on their own!
And there are... a lot. Spider-Man has had so many different live-action costumes I feel like Peter Parker needs a second closet.
So, from the weird homemade attempts to some of the best Spider-Man costumes ever put on screen, let's jump into it!
24. The Spider-Suit from 3 Dev Adam
On the 24th, I figured I might as well start with one of the most infamous Spider-Men: Turkish Spider-Man from the bizarre bootleg movie 3 Dev Adam, where Spider-Man is actually the villain!
The costume looks like somebody saw a picture of Spider-Man once and then had to recreate him from memory. You've got the face webbing and spider emblem... but it’s pink and green, and he wears black boots and gloves. Certainly a choice. It also has cut eyeholes, allowing his bushy brows to poke through. All in all, this is a pretty awful suit.
23. 1977–1979 TV Show Suit
Next up is the suit from the 1977 Spider-Man TV series. I actually have a soft spot for this one, because considering this was made in the 70s, it's actually pretty impressive that they attempted to bring Spider-Man to live action.
But looking at it today, it's definitely showing its age. The webbing is pretty basic, the eyes are weirdly circular, or sometimes look like soup strainers, and the whole thing has that slightly baggy 70s superhero look. So I applaud them for trying, but every hero has to walk before they can run.
22. 1974–1977 Spidey Super Stories Suit
Number 22 comes from The Electric Company, specifically the Spidey Super Story segments.
And honestly, I kinda love how cheap this costume looks. It genuinely looks like somebody made it for a school play, which is pretty appropriate considering this was aimed at kids. It’s higher than the previous example because it doesn’t have any weird boots or gloves, and the eyes are a little more comic-accurate.
It's obviously not a great Spider-Man suit, but it's got a certain charm to it.
21. 2012 – Prototype Suit
At 21, before Andrew Garfield gets his proper Spider-Man suit in The Amazing Spider-Man, we get his prototype.
I actually like the idea of Peter throwing this together himself. It looks exactly like something a teenager might make when he suddenly realizes, "Oh crap, I need a superhero costume." Though it almost looks like he’s more of an anti-hero, which I guess suits his storyline here.
But compared to everything else on this list, there's just not much to dig into here.
20. 1978–1979 – Japanese Spider-Man Suit
And now we get to Japanese Spider-Man at number 20! The costume itself is actually pretty close to the classic design; it basically takes the 1977 American costume and gets rid of the unneeded accessories and gives him squintier white eyes.
Of course, this Spider-Man has a giant transforming robot, so the costume is the least weird part of this show.
19. 2019 – Night Monkey Stealth Suit
19 is the Stealth Suit from Far From Home, or, as Peter Parker's classmates would have you believe, Night Monkey!
I actually like the black stealth design and how different it looks from the usual Spider-Man costume. But at the end of the day, when I think of Spider-Man, this isn't really the look I want. It does retain the classic eyes, but it’s a pretty basic design overall.
18. 2024 – Ezekiel Sims Spider-Suit
At number 18 isn’t really Spider-Man, but I’ll give it credit: it definitely looks like Spider-Man. Of course, this suit is Ezekiel Sim’s spider-suit from Madame Web.
It's got a chunky red web pattern and big red eyes, and texturing in certain sections. It’s honestly not a bad design; it’s just in a pretty horrible movie.
17. 2021 – Inside Out Spider-Suit
Number 17 isn’t technically a new costume; it’s just an inside-out version of the Upgrade suit from No Way Home. He does this cause he couldn’t get paint cleaned off, though later it’s gone, so I don’t know; I guess he went to a laundromat.
It’s a fun idea, and the black and gold colouring is nice, but the exposed wires make it look very uncomfortable when he wears the suit properly. If they had kept this design but flattened it out a little bit I think it would be higher in my ranking, but it’s still a pretty neat one-off idea. Also, when rewatching the series, you do see the inside of his suit in Homecoming, and it is black and gold, so it does line up with the previous movies’ continuity.
16. 2024 – Spider-Women from Madame Web
I’m gonna lump some Spider-Women in at number 16 here since their suits all have similar design language. Now, Madame Web is not a good film, but if these suits were in a better movie, they would probably be talked about more for sure. Cause honestly, they’re pretty good.
First off, you get Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor, who are all beautiful women in pretty comic-accurate suits. I don’t love the open eye holes, but it works okay. The colouring is strong, and when seen together, they complement one another.
But honestly, you put these three women in three garbage bags, and I would still probably rank it pretty high.
15. 2002 – Wrestling Suit
Number 15 is Peter's first attempt at a Spider-Man costume in the 2002 movie: the wrestling suit. I absolutely love how homemade this thing looks.
The red balaclava, spray-painted sweater, and cheap blue pants make it feel like something a broke teenager could actually throw together before going out to wrestle.
It's not the best Spider-Man suit, but it's got a ton of personality.
14. 2018–2021 – Iron Spider Suit
14 goes to the Iron Spider-Suit, first appearing in Avengers: Infinity War. It’s one of those costumes I appreciate more for what it represents than how much I actually like the design.
This is Peter getting the full Tony Stark upgrade, complete with metallic details, gold accents and giant mechanical spider legs that seem to act on their own.
It's very different from traditional Spider-Man, but that's exactly what makes it memorable. Though I feel like Peter didn’t quite earn this suit at this point in the story; as I get it, he had to go into space, but it just seemed so quick. So I’m glad they’ve retired it for now.
13. 2021 – Tobey No Way Home Suit
At unlucky number 13 is Tobey Maguire's returning suit in No Way Home. It’s similar to his previous suits, but it makes some detrimental changes.
It is a cleaner look; the webbing is a little thinner, the colouring is a little darker, but the main differences are the altered face webbing and the new eye lenses. It unfortunately just looks a little off compared to how things popped in his original films.
I don’t dislike the suit; like, its base design is a suit I love, it just basically looks like it took a trip to the dry cleaner and they messed up a few things.
12. 2017 – Homemade Suit
Coming into the halfway point is the homemade suit from Spider-Man: Homecoming. This one might actually be one of the most believable homemade superhero costumes we've gotten.
It's basically Peter taking whatever was available and trying to turn it into a Spider-Man costume. The sweatpants, hoodie, homemade web shooters, goggles... It's incredibly simple.
It feels like something Peter Parker would actually make. Though it still has the expressive eyes, which is a tech that kinda goes unexplained in the film. But nonetheless, it’s not trying to be flashy. It's just a kid trying to become Spider-Man with whatever was lying around.
11. 2016/2017 – Stark Suit
Then we get the first proper MCU Spider-Man suit. When this suit showed up in the Captain America: Civil War trailer, my friends went crazy. Tom Holland seemed the perfect fit for the character.
The design is heavily inspired by the classic comics, but with some modern touches that make it fit into the MCU, largely the added accent lines. I’m glad they made the colouring a little more vibrant in his solo film too.
I especially like the expressive eyes. It's also really cool seeing how much technology is packed into this thing.
Compared to Peter's other suits, this is basically going from building a go-kart in your garage to getting handed a Ferrari. Which may lessen this Spider-Man’s own accomplishments a little bit, but it’s still a fun idea.
10. 2026 – Spider-Noir Suit
Now we have Spider-Noir coming into the top 10! And this one is obviously very different from the traditional Spider-Man costumes because the entire point is to make him look like a noir detective from another era.
The darker colour palette, coat, hat and overall silhouette give Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man a completely different identity.
And after seeing the character's animated version, I was really curious to see how that design would translate into live action. Frankly, I think they did a great job making it feel like its own thing while still immediately communicating, "Yep, that's Spider-Man."
The rounded lenses that look lit-up are great, and just the thickness and texturing of his costume are great; it makes it really feel like the right era.
9. 2021 – Integrated Suit
Then we have Peter's integrated suit from No Way Home. This is basically the culmination of the MCU Spider-Man designs up to this point.
It takes the classic red-and-black look and combines it with some of the technology of the Iron Spider suit.
And visually, I think it works really well. The added gold makes him pop onscreen, while the other changes that happen also streamline the suit, though I don’t know why those other changes occur; did the nano-tech just dislike the Far From Home seam work? But either way, this is a great suit that makes him stand out from the other Spider-Men in No Way Home.
8. 2012 – TASM1 Suit
At number 8 is maybe my most controversial placement, cause I know a lot of people dislike this suit, but it’s Andrew Garfield's first proper Spider-Man suit in TASM.
It's noticeably different from the Raimi costume, with the textured material, darker colours with a slimming blue pattern, small yellow lenses, and a much more stylized spider emblem.
But honestly, I think it's aged pretty well. It feels like they actually tried to create a new interpretation of Spider-Man rather than just copying the previous movie or matching the comics. I can see why people don’t like it or call it the basketball suit, but it’s honestly a refreshing look for the character.
7. 2019/2012 – Upgraded Suit
Next up is the upgraded MCU suit first appearing in Far From Home at lucky number 7. This is the suit Peter designed himself with Tony Stark’s leftover technology, and honestly, it’s a great design. Though I really hate the shot of Happy looking at Peter like he’s so proud of him when he’s creating the suit, like he’s just selecting what he wants and the machine is doing all the work; why are you proud of him here?
But anyways, the design is clean, the red pops more, and it feels like a great continuation of Spider-Man’s suit from Homecoming. The line detailing on his legs and arms is quite nice too, though very subtle in some lighting.
It's a subtle evolution, but I think it works really well.
6. 2002 – Tobey Spider-Suit
At number 6 is the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man suitfrom Spider-Man (2002). This is still one of the most recognizable superhero costumes ever put on screen.
The raised webbing, muscle plating, and deep red and darker blue make it feel very early-2000s, but honestly, that's part of what I love about it. The lenses pop on his face, and this is the first Spider suit to use a faceplate, which you can tell, but it still looks great. Though it does make the jaw a little stiff because of it.
This was the suit that introduced an entire generation to Spider-Man, and even after all these years, it still looks great.
5. 2021 – Final Swing Suit
Coming into the top 5, we have the final swing suit from No Way Home.
With everything Peter goes through, he finally makes a completely new suit for himself. No Stark technology, no Iron Spider, no crazy gadgets — just Peter Parker making his own Spider-Man costume.
I love how simple it is. He keeps the lenses and face design, the same basic webbing pattern, but the blue is bright and shinier. Though I think they went a little too far with the shininess. But ultimately, this is a great design for what we see of it on-screen.
I would like to point out that this is the only suit in my animation that is seen swinging, which was done on purpose because the name for this suit is the “Final Swing Suit”; at least that’s what fans call it.
4. 2004/2007 – Tobey Spider-Suit
Number 4 is the updated Raimi suit from Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. I’m lumping them together here despite minuscule tweaks between movies. This is basically the original costume perfected.
The colouring is bolder, the webs are cleaner, the emblem is larger, and the lenses are more stylized, while still retaining everything that made the 2002 suit so iconic. I kinda wish the lens frames stayed darker to pop a bit more, but everything else is a big improvement.
This is probably the suit that comes to mind first when I picture Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man.
3. 2007 – Black Spider-Suit
Coming into the top 3 is the Raimi Black Suit. I know some people are going to be surprised that I put this one so high. But come on. It's the black suit.
Even though the symbiote storyline in Spider-Man 3 is... let's just say complicated, I can't deny that this costume looks fantastic. It's basically the Raimi Spider-Man suit with the colours swapped out, with a slightly altered logo and eyes. But those simple change completely transforms the character.
The black suit makes Peter look more aggressive and intimidating. The texturing is also improved greatly when seen in black. Do I wish the movie had done more with it? Absolutely. But as a costume? Yeah, this thing rules.
2. 2026 – Spider-Man: Brand New Day Suit
And now we're at the newest suit on the list; hitting number 2 is the new suit from Brand New Day!
I really like how this one feels like the next stage of Tom Holland's Spider-Man. After Peter's reset at the end of No Way Home, he's finally operating completely on his own, and the suit feels like a reflection of that.
It takes the Final Swing Suit and improves upon it. You can see the seams more; it’s not as skintight as the previous suits; the eyes are a little bigger; the colouring pops more, and the blue is toned down. Plus, his emblem is larger too. It’s really just a lot of great changes that come together nicely.
But even with all that...
There is still one suit that takes the top spot for me.
1. 2014/2021 – TASM2 / No Way Home Andrew Garfield Spider-Suit
And that is Andrew Garfield’s suit from TASM2. Yep. This is my number one. To me, it’s basically the perfect live-action Spider-Man costume.
The saturated colours, huge eyes, classic web pattern and beautifully designed spider emblem make this thing feel like it jumped straight out of a comic book. Now the suit isn’t as bright in tone as people recall; it’s really just less textured than his first suit.
And then No Way Home brought it back! That was one of those moments where the audience basically went, "OH MY GOD, IT'S THE SUIT!" Even though it was a little tweaked, it still retained almost all of what made the suit so iconic in TASM2. So even if this isn’t my favourite Spidey movie, it is my favourite Spider suit. It just best captures that classic comic-book look.
So yeah, for me, this one's taking the top spot.
